In the spirit and the culture of supporting communities coupled with the club’s Corporate Social Investment, Kaizer Chiefs players continue to do good by serving their communities.

“I am looking at upholding the family spirit through this tournament,” revealed Bernard ‘Hond’ Parker.

Parker will be hosting the Bernard Parker Tournament in Newlands, Durban on 25 June. “I want to use football to bring people together and to enjoy as families.”

“We will draw people, young and old from the surrounding areas of Newlands including neighbouring townships like KwaMashu,” said a highly inspired Parker.

“We have planned six-a-side matches which will feature teams made out of the communities. Other activities include ball skills activities and fun and games will be part of it as well. Children will enjoy face painting and Jumping Castles in a play area.”

Newlands is backyard to Parker’s in-laws, with his wife, Wendy hailing from the area, “This is part of the plan to rollout what we started in Reiger Park last year,” said Parker.

“The event was a success last September in Reiger Park, and we thought we should take it to the next level. We don’t know where this will end up; hopefully we will reach out in other communities, God willing.”

The Bernard Parker Tournament will take place on 25 June, starting at 09:00 at John Dory Sports Ground.

Meanwhile, across the border, in Zimbabwe, the Amakhosi Player of the Season, Willard Katsande hosted a weekend tournament called 16 Junior Teams Battling.

“The event went well,” reflected Katsande on the event that took place on 11-12 June at Manicaland, Mashonaland and Matebeleland provinces.

“The kids were able to showcase their skills. I want to divert the attention of young people into sports and hopefully this will help in alleviating the social ills in our society.”

Katsande went on to thank Kaizer Chiefs for the support. Katsande recently captained Zimbabwe to qualify for the finals of the Afcon2017 to be held in Gabon, “To lead my country to Afcon is a priceless moment in my career and football in Zim.”
