Last Saturday’s Mamelodi Sundowns fixture was a clash of titans. Several of our players sustained knocks and bruises in this fiercely contested 2-1 victory.

Itumeleng Khune went down late in the second half, nurturing a thigh muscle strain, but he’s fine and training hard to be ready for Sunday’s Nedbank Cup Last 16 encounter against Acornbush United.

Lorenzo Gordinho sustained a cut to his head in the first half, after an aerial battle. The wound was glued and his head was bandaged so the strong defender could continue playing. There was no concussion.

Substitute George Lebese got a knock to his ankle, but he’s fine too and is in full training.

Meanwhile, Tsepo Masilela was replaced late in the second half when his calf was cramping lightly. He was taken out as a precautionary measure.

The Zambian striker Lewis Macha hasn’t trained for the last week due to stomach issues, although he was in the gym today.

Brilliant Khuzwayo was recently operated on his ankle. The goalkeeper’s right ankle is at present in a plaster cast.

“As Brilliant can’t really train at the moment, he has been given some time off,” Kaizer Chiefs’ physiotherapist David Milner says. “His rehabilitation in the gym will start in six weeks’ time.”
