“We will go into the game with a positive mindset,” says Daniel Cardoso ahead of Tuesday night’s home fixture against Bidvest Wits. “We will be looking for the three points.”
Kaizer Chiefs played to a one-all draw against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Absa Premiership’s opening match of the season on Saturday afternoon.
“We performed well,” the defender reflects, “it was a good start to the season, achieving a point away against the reigning league champions. We dominated the game, playing with confidence.”
Cardoso has been the mainstay in the Amakhosi defence, having enjoyed an excellent 2017/2018 season. The 29-year-old started last season in 28 league matches, coming on twice as a substitute.
Wits struggled last season, only finishing in 13th position, while they had won the league title the year before. The Clever Boys did, however, start this season on a high, beating Free State Stars 3-0 at home.
The two sides played twice to a one-all draw last season. Amakhosi took the lead in both matches, before Wits managed to equalise. Siphiwe Tshabalala scored in the encounter played at home, while Ryan Moon netted in the away clash.
“It’s our first match at home and we want to do well,” Cardoso concludes about the Wits fixture. “We are playing more attacking football and let’s hope that our positive approach will be awarded come Tuesday.”
Kaizer Chiefs will host Bidvest Wits for an Absa Premiership encounter on Tuesday, 7 August, at FNB Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 19:30.
