Playing with the Reserve Team - Rusike

‘I am happy to join the Reserve Team,’ comments Kaizer Chiefs forward Matthew Rusike on the Reserve Team’s first match in the PSL’s Multichoice Diski Challenge against Maritzburg United Reserves this Saturday. ‘I am coming back from injury. To get game time is important.’

Rusike has been doing well in training, working hard to regain full fitness after sustaining a knee injury towards the end of last season. The inaugural PSL Reserve League will be launched this weekend with a festival of matches taking place in KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.

‘It will be great to help the Reserve Team get the three points,’ continues Rusike. ‘That’s also the philosophy of our coach (Stuart Baxter). Together we form a team, that’s the message he’s getting across. Even the biggest player can one day play for the Reserves.’

And what about scoring a goal on Saturday? Rusike smiles, then adds: ‘I am focussing on my fitness right now, not so much on scoring goals. If we win Saturday with 3-0 and the goalkeeper scores three, I will be very happy!’
