Kaizer Chiefs travelled to Polokwane over the weekend to return with three points from their Premiership clash with BIDvest Wits on the 18th December. The Glamour Boys not only made their mark on the field at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, they also showed that Polokwane has Amakhosi Mojo!

Kaizer Chiefs Senior Team Players and Management travelled to the City of Peace on the 16th December to take part in some outreach and CSI programmes with Club sponsor Vodacom. Programmes took place from the 16th until their day of departure on Sunday, 19th December.

Amakhosi have a large following in Polokwane and this was once again witnessed in the fan and supporter attendance at the game. The most impressive part of the weekend though, was the visits to children’s homes, appearances at the Vodacom Regional offices and soccer clinics given in Moletsi.

The Senior Team Players visited ‘Place of Safety’, which is a children’s home not far from the Polokwane CBD, where the Glamour Boys displayed their fatherly love by spending time with a child each. Children at ‘Place of Saftey’ are abandoned children, some of whom are abused and neglected by their parents and caregivers. The experience gave the Players some time to make a real connection with some of their much younger fans.

The Players then moved onto the Vodacom Regional Offices where they were met by excited and eager Vodacom staff who were able to spend some time with their favourite Players ahead of the weekend’s PSL clash.

It was all in a day’s work as the Players then proceeded to the KFC on Thabo Mbeki Rd where they engaged fans and supporters as well as assisted in promoting the game and the Kaizer Chiefs brand. This was followed by a visit to Savanah Mall where the Players continued in their promotion of the game with the Vodacom Regional Team as well as Vodacom Representatives, Qiniso Nyathi (Marketing, Informal Settlements) and his JHB colleagues Thabo Phiri (Senior Manager- Participation Marketing- Client Services) and Mack Sekgapholo (Participation Marketing Manager).

The Club partnered with the Department of Roads and Transport Limpopo to promote the ‘Arrive Alive’ campaign for the festive season. Kaizer Chiefs Veteran Arthur Zwane and Players Gerald Sibeko, David Mathebula, Nkosinathi Nhleko, George Lebese, and others gave out fliers and spoke to motorists at the Engen Garage at Kranskop on Friday 17th December along with the Provinces’ MEC Pinky Kekana. The campaign was broadcast by local radio station, Capricorn FM where continuous awareness was created throughout the weekend, Players made sure to remind motorists to ‘buckle up’ and drive safely.

The evening closed off at the SABC radio studios where Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung spoke to several radio stations to engage fans and supporters on the Club’s activities in the province. Jessica also reminded fans and supporters to purchase their tickets for the game and to attend the game early: “Polokwane definately has Amakhosi Mojo, and one can see this and feel it wherever we go in the City. I am very proud of the Amakhosi Faithful who also travelled to support us, I just want to urge them to keep showing their Amakhosi Mojo!”

Jessica continued: “We made a valuable alliance with the Department of Roads and Transport Limpopo to communicate a pertinent issue in our communities, which is road safety. Kaizer Chiefs are looking forward to more initiatives of this kind with local government and organizations. We were not alone, as our very loyal sponsor, Vodacom were ‘on the road’ with us. Thank you to our JHB Vodacom Team and the Regional Team for making this past weekend such a success!”

The Players made two appearances on the 18th December before making their way to the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Players gave soccer clinics at the Manamela Sports Complex in Moletsi and then continued the ‘Arrive Alive’ awareness campaign in Botlokwa.

On Sunday, 19th December, the Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director visited the ‘Good Samaritan’, another children’s home that looks after children in need, along with the ASC crew and Branch Executives from the Sishego Branch.

So, after a long weekend of activations, CSI programmes and appearances, the Glamour Boys are moving onto the Mpumlanga Province, where they will continue in their work to reach out to communities and their large fan base.
