Sibeko, who missed training in the latter part of January and early February, began full training last week and has recovered sufficiently to render himself available for the clash against Wits.
In the meantime defender Jonathan Quartey, who last featured in a competitive match for Chiefs back in September, will have to wait a little longer to start playing again. The Ghanaian youth international had his tonsils removed which means that he will, in all likelihood, not feature against Wits or SuperSport whom Chiefs host on the weekend.
Perfect inclusion
Muhsin Ertugral believes that should Gerald be able to play against BidVest Wits on Wednesday evening, his presence in the team will be a timely boost for Chiefs.
Ertugral said of Sibeko’s possible return to action on Wednesday: “Gerald has both defensive and offensive capabilities which renders him a very important part of our team, when he is not around his absence is really felt by us. We will not rush him back unnecessarily but we will monitor his progress in training on Monday and Tuesday before making a final decision on whether or not he can play in the match against Wits”.
Ten-day rest
Jonathan Quartey was told to rest for ten days after his tonsil operation which has meant that the defender will only resume training on Friday, and that will see him being next available for selection when Chiefs play Ajax Cape Town on the 1st March.
Chiefs physiotherapist David Milner said of Quartey, “He had his tonsils removed last week and the doctor said that he must be off all activities for ten days. So we are hoping for him to resume training on Friday and depending on his progress through the next week we can then be in a better position to assess whether or not the coach can select him to travel to Cape Town for the Ajax match”.
