Chiefs will play their third game in seven days since the start of the season last weekend when they meet Cape Town City this afternoon in the MTN8 quarterfinals at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.

The teams meet in the top eight competition after finishing fourth and fifth respectively in the DStv Premiership last season. City have a home ground advantage because they finished fourth.

Apart from playing at home, City will be confident after winning their midweek match against Moroka Swallows, while Chiefs lost their tough encounter defending league champions, Mamelodi Sundowns.

Amakhosi will want to add their name to the hat for the semi-finals to join Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, who have already qualified for the last four.

Chiefs hold the record of winning the MTN8 competition 15 times after reaching finals on 21 occasions. The Glamour Boys will want to add another cup by winning it after the sponsors produced a new trophy which will be on offer for the new season.

The visitors will not have Siyethemba Sithebe in the team after the midfielder picked up an injury on Wednesday. He will be replaced by former Cape Town City player, Mduduzi Mdantsane. Another change for Chiefs is in attack with Ranga Chivaviro being replaced by Tebogo Potsane.

Coach Molefi Ntseki will use 4-2-3-1 for this afternoon’s MTN8 game.

Brandon Petersen is in goals.

The reliable S’fiso Hlanti is on the left, with Reeve Frosler on the right. Central defenders are Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Given Msimango.

The defensive midfield duo of Yusuf Maart and Edson Castillo will hold things firm for Amakhosi. They will have Pule Mmodi on the left and Potsane on the right wing, while Mdantsane will be behind the striker.

Wednesday’s goal scorer against Sundowns, Ashley Du Preez, will lead the attack for Chiefs.

The captain’s armband will be worn by Petersen.

The match officials are referee Luxolo Badi. His assistants are Thembinkosi Mangai and Lubabalo Pitsha. The fourth official Luyanda Nondala

Amakhosi and Cape Town City meet at Athlone Stadium at 15:00. The MTN8 match will be live on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv, SABC 1 and various SABC radio stations - with regular updates of the match on Twitter @KaizerChiefs.
