Kaizer Chiefs completed their final preparation ahead of a trip across town to face Highlands Park in the Nedbank Cup round of 16.
The rainy south of Johannesburg conditions didn’t seem to hamper Ernst Middendorp and his troops, as they all looked sharp and focused for the task that is waiting in Tembisa’s Makhulong Stadium this afternoon.
Good news is that attacker Khama Billiat is available for selection. “We had a discussion with Khama, and he is fine,” says Middendorp. “We watched him and at pre-match he looked fine. We are confident he is ready to play if selected.”
Then there is matter of three yellow cards when one throws a javelin to the upcoming Soweto Derby next week, “everyone is available,” confirms Middendorp. “The players that aren’t available are involved in a carefully crafted programme. Youngsters like Njabulo Blom and Siyabonga Ngezana have some small niggles, so there was no need to call for their services for this round. Reeve Frosler as well, though has three yellow cards, we have decided to put him on a programme as well.”
The opponents, Highlands Park welcome Amakhosi from an encouraging midweek 2-2 all drawn league match away from home. “Highlands Park looked good against Bidvest Wits on Wednesday,” he says. “They played well especially in the first half; they were dangerous. They are a good side and we will respect them.
“Otherwise we will treat the game like we do with any other match. We have planned well for the match and optimistic that we will progress to the next round.”
Kick-off is at 15:00 and tickets are sold out.
