Pretty things don’t win games - Ertugral

Kaizer Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral has expressed concern at the fact that The Amakhosi, despite creating numerous goal-scoring chances, particularly in their past four league games, have been unable to find the back of the net with more ease and more regularly.

Ertugral has ambitions of making his second spell at The Amakhosi more successful than his first and in order to do that, he is aware that his team needs to start winning games. While he expressed his dismay at the way Chiefs went down to Ajax Cape Town on Saturday evening, he does have the hope and belief that his players will soon turn things around. Chiefs Turkish-born coach believes that it might take the young players at Chiefs a few more weeks to find their footing, but believes once they do The Amakhosi will be unstoppable.

Football not like Gymnastics

While in a sport like Gymnastics one might be given points for showing some good balance and nifty foot work, in football points are gained and lost by the number of goals a team scores and Ertugral made mention of that fact when saying: “In football, unfortunately you do not get rewarded for movement and looking pretty on the ball. It is a pity we not like rhythmic gymnasts where points are given for these kind of things. We have had good movement and have done everything correct except score goals. We can not continue like this and something has to give sooner rather than later and I believe the turn around needs to begin with a win against Swallows”.

No magician

The Chiefs coach also added that if he could have one piece of equipment in his possession it would be a magic wand, as he would be able to wave away all of the challenges that presently confront him. He made a comparison between Chiefs' situation at the present time and that of English Premier League leaders Arsenal, when he said: “If you look at Arsenal a season ago they were a disaster and a few months later they were flying high in the English Premiership. We are at a similar stage to where they were a year ago in that we have fielded a whole number of younger players, and when you make such dramatic changes to your team things are bound to take time to settle down. Like Arsenal, I feel we will, over the next couple of weeks, begin to display more consistency and by the end of the year, it is my feeling that a lack of goals will no longer be an issue for us.”
