Free State Stars: 2 ( Kauleza 71min, Tshabalala 78 min)
Kaizer Chiefs made a triumphant return to the FNB Stadium with an empathic 5-2 victory over PSL new boys Free State Stars.
In his pre-game comments Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp had described the Amakhosi’s clash with Free State Stars as the proverbial Banana peel, with the countries attention on Saturday's eagerly awaited clash with Orlando Pirates.
Coach Ernst Middendorp need not worry as the only slipping down was when the Chiefs strikers we sliding the ball in to the back of the Stars net.
Although in truth it did take Chiefs a while to get going but once the Amakhosi got going there was no stopping, Chiefs scored with their fist real attack of the game when after a few neat interchanges between Tinashe Nengomasha and David Obua.
The latter found Louis Agyemang lurking inside the Stars penalty area, the Ghanaian sent the ball through to David Radebe whose gentle lob beat Mashini to open the scoring against his old team.
Three minutes later in the 20th minute Radebe doubled his and the Amakhosi’s tally with a pin point header off a superb run and cross by Tinashe Nengomasha down the right flank.
Chiefs continued to pile on the pressure and went into the halftime break three goals to the good with Louis Agyemang striking just before the break to claim his fourth goal of the season.
Chiefs continued in the second half where they left off in the first with Kaizer Motaung Junior on as second half substitute scored from a corner, the young striker could have had a hat trick of his own.
Prior to scoring he missed an easy scoring opportunity when one on one with the goalkeeper but shot straight at Mashini, moments before he had thunderous shot ricochet off the cross bar.
For a brief period in at the mid way point of the second half Chiefs went to sleep and Stars found some consolation with Kauleza pouncing on a defensive lapse on 71 minutes to score, seven minutes later Tshabalala made it two for Stars.
Arthur Zwane put paid to any thoughts Stars might have had of a comeback with a Chiefs fifth goal with the aid of a deflection straight from the kick off.
This constellation of Stars found Chiefs to bright to outshine, with perhaps their minds still at the Seisa Ramabadou stadium after their 3-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic in the Free State derby this past Sunday.
For Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp’s and his charges this victory will be the kind of confidence booster they needed with Pirates on the horizon.
