The competition will be staged in South Africa after the hosting rights were withdrawn from original hosts Libya, the eight team event will be staged in Gauteng with games being hosted at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto and BIDVest Stadium in Johannesburg.
Speaking at the announcement of his squad on Thursday afternoon after his team had won their final warm up game against Botswana Amajita Coach Maqsood Chenia said “I am satisfied with the team we have in camp; this is the best team we could assemble given the time frame, I have a lot of confidence in this squad.”
Chenia’s hope is for his team to at the minimum qualify for the semi-final stage as that will secure their qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup which will be hosted by Colombia from July 29 – August 20.
“As you know the semi-finalists will get a chance to represent their countries during the U-20 World Cup in Colombia later this year and I would like to achieve that with this team. The fact that we are playing at home will be a huge advantage for the team.”
South Africa have been drawn in Group A along with Mali, Lesotho and Egypt and will kick off their campaign against Mali on April 17.
