Merciless Kaizer Chiefs celebrated Woman’s Day in style as they demolished out of sorts Santos to proceed to the next round of a lucrative MTN 8 competition. Gert Schalkwyk who had a superb game grabbed a brace, with Jose Torrealba and Reneilwe Letsholonyane both scoring on their debut for Chiefs.

Chiefs started the game on a high note when striker Schalkwyk slotted the ball at the back of the net finishing off a superb pass from Jonathan Quartey with Santos defence caught in sixes and sevens. The home side again took full advantage of the visitors defence when Torrealba scored his first official goal following a superb piece of work from his partner Schalkwyk.

On form Schalkwyk grabbed his brace two minutes later following a sublime run by Zimbabwean, Onismor Bhasera. Santos who looked jet legged had no answer on Chiefs pace on the night. The home side could have added fourth goal a minute later but Letsholonyane’s tame shot did not trouble Lee-Raoul Langevbeldt. This followed some neat passing between Letsholonyane and Schalkwyk who left Santos defence chasing shadows.

Kaizer Chiefs went to the half time with a comfortable 3-0 lead. There was no stopping of the rampant Amakhosi as Letsholanoyane scored in his debut after running to Schalkwvk cheeky back heel making the score 4-0. Substitute Mandla Masango could have added his name in the score sheet when his shot went disappointingly wide following a flick from Schalkwyk. This was following a cross from the Torrealba who troubled the visitors defence the whole night with his superb runs off the ball.

Kaizer Chiefs who knocked the ball around well were overall rock-solid at the back, credible in the middle of the park and dangerous upfront. Schalkwyk got a standing ovation from Amakhosi faithful as he went off for Thuso Phala in the76th minute.

With ten minutes to go Santos threw everything they had and substitute Ryan Chapman should have scored a consolation goal for his side but Emile Baron made a superb save denying the young striker. From a resultant corner Jurie Basies’s shot went just wide of Baron‘s goals following a good flick Elieazer Rodgers. Baron was called to duty once more as he made a point blank save denying Rogers after Santos had taken a quick free kick.

Amakhosi will now wait with bated breath to who will be their next opponents on Monday.
