Kaizer Chiefs put a five star performance to beat Maritzburg United 3-1 in front of 40 000 vociferous fans at the newly built World Cup stadium, Moses Mabhida in Durban on Sunday afternoon. Nkosinathi Nhleko had given Chiefs a lead in the 33rd minute but his strike was cancelled by Musa Nyatama just before half time before the Glamour Boys scored two goals in the last ten minutes via Zhiamu Jambo and Abia Nale.
The Amakhosi made their intentions clear as early as 6th minute when Abia Nale sneaked in front of Maritzburg United defence to force a save out of Shaib Walters. This was following some good work on the left by burley striker, Nkosinathi Nhleko.
Walters was again called into action few minutes later this time denying Nkosinathi Nhleko after a sublime cross from flying left-back, Zhiamu Jambo.
It did not took long for Chiefs who were dominating the proceedings to open scoring via the boot of Nkosinathi Nhleko in the 32nd minute. It was Chippa’s 6th goal of the season. Nale playing wide on the right thought he had doubled the lead for the Glamour Boys two minutes later but referee, Daniel Bennet called for offside.
Chiefs appeared to have taken their foot off the paddle allowing hosts, Maritzburg United to pull a goal back through Musa Nyatama who found himself one on one with goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, 1 all at half time.
The Glamour Boys started the second half like house on fire with Jimmy Jambo and Nkosinathi Nhleko both coming close inside the 10 minutes.
Then Itumeleng Khune got his finger tips on the ball as Felix Obada’s 25 scorching drive came off the woodwork. Bagetta Dikulu watched his free kick going just over the bar as the hosts searched for a winner.
The day though belonged to the Glamour Boys of Phefeni as overlapping Jimmy Jambo grabbed his first goal in gold a black with a beauty in the 82nd minute after being brilliantly set up by striker, Jose Torrealba.
Man of the Match Abia Nale sealed the win for the boys from Phefeni with a close range in the 87th minute to compound more misery on Maritzburg United.
The win took Chiefs to fourth position in the Absa Premiership log standings and they will be confident on Wednesday, 09 December 2009 when the welcome Platinum Stars at Loftus Versefeld in Pretoria.
