“Real supporters always back their players,” Amakhosi legend Zebulon ‘Sputla’ Nhlapo told the members of the Kaizer Chiefs Kwa-Thema Branch on Sunday afternoon. “Especially when a player is down because of, for example, just missing a great goal scoring opportunity. That’s when you need to boost the player’s confidence and stand right behind him. Supporters that boo are not real supporters.”
Two Amakhosi legends attended the Kwa-Thema Branch meeting, as former wing-back Nick ‘Yster’ Sikwane was also present at the Bahama Pub & Restaurant where the meeting was held. Both players grew up in Kwa-Thema, Springs.
Various topics were discussed, including the new Supporters card, which will be introduced next year. Chiefs Manager of Supporters Structures Tracy Williams answered the questions. She was happy about the input: “Exchange of information is so important. That’s also what we always stress at the Amakhosi - there is no division or gap between headquarters and our supporters. We are one FAMILY.”
Branch Chairman Zakhele Mndebele was satisfied with the quality of the discussion and he was also pleased with the attendance. He was furthermore excited about having two Chiefs legends in attendance: “It’s always great to meet your heroes.”
“I always go to the stadium,” mentioned Puleng Sekano, who is the Branch’s treasury official. “I agree with ‘Sputla’, real supporters not only come to the stadium, but they are always behind the players, in good and less good times. Luckily, most Kaizer Chiefs supporters will never boo one of their own players. Instead, I will always try to motivate a player, above all when he’s a bit down. That’s also our spirit and that’s why I am an Amakhosi for Life.”
