Kaizer Chiefs reserves kept up their relentless march towards the 2024/25 DStv Diski Challenge league title with a comprehensive 3-1 win over Richards Bay at the Dobsonville stadium in Soweto on Saturday.
First half goals by Imaad Hendricks and Naledi Hlongwane, plus a third after the break from Neo Bohloko, had Amakhosi firmly in the driver’s seat before the young Rich Boys registered a last minute consolation goal to lend no more than a semblance of respectability to the score line of a match in which they were totally outclassed.
The victory maintains Chiefs’ one point lead over Stellenbosch, and with just two rounds left to play, they have their noses in front heading down the home straight. Next up is an appointment with Magesi at home on Sunday, 27 April, where a win will take them to within one step of achieving their ambition. A further three points against AmaZulu the following weekend will assure Amakhosi of the title.
Meanwhile, in Johannesburg, the Amakhosi U17s participated in the 2025 Vision View Easter Cup of Champions, reaching the quarterfinals where they were agonisingly eliminated 4-2 on penalties following a 0-0 draw against SuperSport United U17s on Monday morning.
They had come through the group stage undefeated earlier in the holiday weekend, beating Joburg City U17s 2-0 and Mamelodi Sundowns U17s 3-1, and drawing 1-1 against both Magnet Youth Sports Academy U17s and KP 5 Academy U17s, to finish on eight points.
The Safa Gauteng Development League (GDL) programme resumes this coming weekend, with Kaizer Chiefs hosting Sevens Academy at the Village on Saturday, 26 April.
