Kaizer Motaung, Executive Chairman Kaizer Chiefs:

It is with deep sadness that I received the news of the passing of the legendary Hugh Masekela. He was a global music giant, a trail blazer and visionary, a creative genius and an activist for freedom.

We will remember Bra Hugh for the role he played to place South Africa on the map in as far as arts and culture is concerned.

His name is also cast in stone in the history of South African politics with his rendition of struggle songs, like Soweto Blues and Mandela (Bring Him Back Home).

The ‘Father of South African jazz’, as the late Bra Hugh was affectionately known, has run his race with grace and honour, earning his stripes the hard way. Truly a gentleman and scholar - his was a good innings.

On behalf of Kaizer Chiefs, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and millions of jazz lovers across the world. He was a special and unique soul and the world is a better place because of him.

Rest In Peace Hugh Masekela – your work is done but your legacy will live on forever.
