Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs defender Lucas Radebe has expressed his desire to be involved in coaching at Elland Road when his time as a player comes to an end, the club's website reported on Tuesday.

The former Leeds United captain revealed that Yorkshire and Leeds had taken a hold of his heart and given the opportunity he would gladly continue to serve the club.

The 33-year-old is ready to start his testimonial season, after which he knows he may not be playing anymore and a move into coaching would appear to be a logical step for the man who loves the game and appreciates how privileged he is to be playing it at the top level.

"I would love to be involved here," said Radebe told the club's official website when asked if he would stay on as a coach.

"It's like this, since I've started playing football I've played for four teams. It was just one stepping stone every time to move up a level, but if you were to open up my heart you'll see the crests of all those teams and Leeds United is definitely there.

"I am going to do the coaching badge and hopefully with the relationship I have here with some great people at the club, who have made me settle, I will be able to do well. It's my second home and it would be nice to settle here and get a job."

Radebe is a breed of footballer that always stops to appreciate the benefits he has got out of football.

Born in apartheid South Africa, opportunities to make it as a young black professional sportsman were rare, but The Chief is a rare breed and every now and then he pauses to reflect on where it all started.
