“The Sedibeng region is setting the standards very high,” Kaizer Chiefs Supporters Relationship Manager Tracy Williams comments, after visiting the region’s workshop on Sunday. More than hundred supporters from 18 branches attended the meeting, which was held at the North West University Vaal campus.

The workshop was run by Chris Makume, the strategic advisor of the region. It concentrated on the most important qualities of good leadership. These included the importance of having a clear vision supported by your team, being courageous, trusting your team, remaining humble, being focused, the ability to co-operate and exemplary behaviour.

This was followed by a controlled gripe session with the aim to air grievances and concerns, before they become problematic. It was basically a question and answer session to clear the air on issues that are dear to the supporters.

The regional structure also communicated expectations, including planning events, the importance of attending home games and meetings, having a robust CSI programme as well as fighting fong kong.

Williams confirmed that the training and development of the structures is crucial. She mentioned that Kaizer Chiefs is working hand-in-hand with the university to develop certificated courses for the skills required to perform certain roles in the branch structures, including those of chairperson, secretary and financial officer.
