Kaizer Chiefs (2) 4 (Zwane 28, 38, Ogbonna 31, 90)
Bidvest Wits 1 (Spelman 89)
Caution: Hendricks, Torrealba, Nengomasha, Oliveira.
Kaizer Chiefs bounced back in style on Saturday night when they sent Bidvest Wits packing in their own back yard walloping them 4-1.
The visitors who were on fire on the night could have scored more goals but a brace each from veteran winger, Arthur Zwane and Ibe Zito Ogbonna was enough to see Chiefs back in winning ways.
The visitors were the first to draw blood inside a minute when Ogbonna in his debut had his shot sailed wide. Then goalkeeper, Energy Murambadoro pulled a sublime double save denying Jose Torrealba and Ogbonna.
Torrealba did well to unleash a fierce volley inside the 18 area after Neil Winstanley had misread a cross but Murambadoro pulled a superb save. Then from a rebound Ogbonna had his shot saved by Murambadoro.
Gert Schalkwyk should have done better minutes later as Chiefs searched for the first goal of the game but his header sailed over the bar, this was following a good cross from Jimmy Tau. Then from the other side, Marawan Bantam misplaced his header after a good cross from Winstenley.
The Glamour Boys finally got the goal they were desperately looking for in the 28th minute when veteran winger, Zwane scored with a low shot inside the box following sublime pass from Schalkwyk who started as a midfielder on the night.
Ten minutes later, Ogbonna scored his first goal for the Glamour Boys with a delightful header following superb work from left back, Gilbert Gordon. Wits defenders had their work cut out on the night with both Torrealba and debutant, Ogbonna asking lot of questions.
The latter came close to grabbing his brace when he forced Murambadoro to pull another save with a fierce shot outside the 18 area. There was no denying the Glamour Boys their third goal on the night as Zwane completed his brace on the 38th minute following an exquisite pass from Torrealba.
Chiefs started second half with the same vengeance and they should have scored the fourth goal of the game when Ogbonna’s shot went wide.
Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral made a double substitution pulling out Zwane and Siphiwe Tshabalala for Reneilwe Letsholonyane and David Mathebula respectively. Torrealba who had searched for the goal all night came close with his blistering strike going just wide of Murambadoro’s goals.
Wits tried to claw their way back into the game but found debutant, Thabang Rooi and Burundian, Valery Nahayo in an uncompromising mood.
The Clever Boys pulled one back on the 90th minute from the penalty spot after defender Tau had fouled Calvin Sosibo inside the box. Phiko Spelman stepped up but his spot kick was saved by Khune however the former Bush Bucks and Winners Park striker managed to score from the rebound.
The Glamour Boys were not finished though as they earned a penalty deep in injury time when Wits captain, Tipa Bienvenu brought down Thuso Phala inside the box. Ogbonna made no mistake scoring a beauty from the spot to seal a 4-1 win for Amakhosi.
Veteran winger, Zwane was voted Man of the Match for his exploits on the night that saw him scoring his first brace since 11 September 2005 when Chiefs beat Dynamos 2-0.
