The young Ivorian striker has been ruled out of action for six months after picking up an injury late in September - he will use the time at home to rest and further recover from the injury which resulted in him having to undergo knee surgery early in October.
The Amakhosi medical team felt it would be to Serge’s advantage for him to go away for a few days as visiting his family will be the motivation he needs to continue his recovery and rehabilitation process. The medical department felt that Serge was putting pressure on himself as he was beginning to get frustrated watching matches and being unable to play.
Kaizer Chiefs physiotherapist David Milner commenting on the decision to allow Serge the off time said: "Serge has been working hard and we suggested to the coach that it would help lift his spirits if he went home for a few days as the last couple of weeks have been frustrating for him. We hope that he will return from home happy and motivated enough to continue working hard and finding his way to full fitness."
Serge who is the youngest of seven kids says that he will spend the time at his parents home and will also visit his two brothers, four sisters and twelve nephews and nieces while at home in the Ivorian capital Abidjan. Serge’s father Americo who was once an Ivory Coast international is now the head of development at Stellar Club where Serge began his soccer career.
The visibly excited Djiehoua commenting on his first journey back home since joining Chiefs in August said: "I really miss my mother a lot, I know she will lay on some traditional Ivorian dishes which I don’t get to eat in South Africa. Also it will be nice for me to sit with my father - he was my first coach and I am sure he will have a lot of advice to offer me on the way forward in my career."
Serge will fly out from Johannesburg at midday on Tuesday and should be in the Ivory Coast at around 20h00pm South African time on Tuesday evening.
