The Amakhosi’s man of the match from their weekend triumph over Ajax Cape Town Siphiwe Tshabalala, was well pleased with his contribution in the game and the fact that the victory ensured that Chiefs still have an outside shot at winning the league title.

“I was very happy to have scored two goals against Ajax” said an elated Shabba who played a hand in three of Chiefs’ four goals against Ajax. He then went on to add “I pushed for a third it would have been nice to have grabbed my first official hat-trick in professional football it was not meant to be.

After playing against a really strong team and playing a role in your team’s victory it is very pleasing, it is pleasing to have contributed by scoring two goals and setting up one in a good victory for your team against a team who are on top of the league.”

Shabba also praised the performances of his teammates during the win as he said, “we as a team did very well against Ajax, everyone played their part and from the back through the midfield and the attackers everyone put up an accomplished showing.

Our marking was good we kept things tight at the back, we held a good line in the midfield and in attack we converted our chances when they came our way, which ensured that the game worked out in our favour. In the first half particularly we did not give them the opportunity to get into the game.”

Shabba is now looking forward to the Amakhosi’s final game of the season on May 21 against Amazulu in Durban, he holds the view that Chiefs need to focus only on winning the game and not concern themselves with thoughts of winning the title.

“We need to apply the same mentality in Durban that we did against Ajax, it is important that like we did on Saturday we just go out there and enjoy ourselves. It is a few weeks away and we do have time to prepare for the game.

Chiefs are always under pressure when we play regardless of the game and the opponents, there will be no extra pressure on us, we not thinking any negative thoughts. In the build up to and during the calm we will remain positive.”

In the meantime Shabba is pleased that Chiefs are still alive in the title race, “the fight is still on, winning the title is still a difficult task and we have to be realistic about that.

We just have to keep on going, we want to win the game against Amazulu regardless of what happens in any of the other games on the final day of the season we want to sign off with a win, because we owe it to our fans to end the season with a win.”
