Bafana Bafana coach Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba faces the possibility of having to name a virtually uncapped squad for next weekend's four-nations tournament in Tanzania.

Mashaba is allowed to pick one player from each of the country's 16 premier league clubs because fixture postponements, caused by international call-ups, have caused chaos in the opening weeks of the domestic season.

Former league champions Orlando Pirates have yet to play a league match, while African Wanderers have already completed seven games.

Regulations allow clubs to postpone matches if they have three or more players called away to play for a national side, even if it is the South African under-20 team.

To catch up on the backlog, South Africa's Premier Soccer League has told Mashaba he may only have one player per club for the week-long tournament.

South Africa play Kenya in Arusha next Wednesday before facing Tanzania or Uganda in Dar-es-Salaam on October 27.

On Wednesday, the coach was scrambling to find players for his team, with South Africa's large contingent of foreign-based players also unavailable because the Tanzania tournament falls outside the co-ordinated international calendar.

A provisional list featured 18 uncapped players in the South African squad of 23, although more changes are expected before Mashaba announces the final list on Thursday.
