“Foremost, let me congratulate my team,” said Giovanni Solinas after leading Kaizer Chiefs to the Telkom Knockout semi-final. “We showed lots of character against a resilient SuperSport United. They are a good team. They are very difficult to beat. They are very physical and tactically strong.”
Amakhosi beat Matsatsantsa 1-0 to advance to the semis of the Telkom Knockout, where they will meet Orlando Pirates.
“We played very well in the first half, while we soaked up the pressure in the second half,” reflected Solinas on the cup match. “We were not so fluid though. But we will take this win to the next game to improve our log position.”
George Maluleka returned to the starting line-up after having missed out on the Soweto Derby. “George is our box-to-box player,” commented the Italian coach. “He did his job excellently. With this kind of gallant performance from my team, we don’t fear any opponent.”
A journalist raised at the post-match conference a question about supporters calling for substitutions, to which Solinas replied: “I focus on the match and not on the stands. In fact, the supporters pushed us to this win. We had an advantage with our supporters behind us. We appreciate our supporters and want to make them proud all the time.”
Chiefs will on Wednesday turn their attention to the Absa Premiership when they welcome Black Leopards. The game is scheduled for a 19:30 kick-off at FNB Stadium.
Tickets are on sale for R40 at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide.
