Sibeko aims for continued success against Stars

The Amakhosi will meet Free State Stars for the fifteenth time in a Premier Soccer League match on Wednesday night at the Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg.

Chiefs will be aiming to win for the ninth time in a league game against the Free Staters. Gerald Sibeko who made a return to action from a recent knee injury during Chiefs Telkom Cup win over SuperSport United, wants to continue on against Free State Stars from where he and his team mates left off against United and believes that the positive aspects of Sunday's hard earned ¼ Final victory needs for to be carried forward into Wednesday evenings game.

Overcoming United took a real team effort from The Amakhosi and Sibeko is looking towards Chiefs coming up with another strong showing on Wednesday.

Victory over Stars who have worked their way into third place on the standings, will get Chiefs season up and running in the right direction. With the Stars game and another against Moroka Swallows a week later, there is no time for Chiefs to let up. Picking up points against Stars and Swallows will put Chiefs in the driving seat when they meet Celtic in next weekend's Telkom Cup ½ Finals.

Great expectations

With Free State Stars and their Free State rivals Bloemfontein Celtic presently lying in the two and three in the standings, the teams from the Free State have laid down the challenge to the rest of the country with the fans in green and white and red and white expecting their teams to bring home the silver ware this season.

Sibeko believes that defeating a Stars team who are at the top of their game on Wednesday will sound the alarm bells that anyone writing Chiefs off will be doing so at their peril. “Stars are doing well and we want to be up in the higher positions, for us to get there we need to get three points off Stars our fans expect us to do better, we expect our selves to achieve more so leaving Rustenburg with a win is the only option for us on Wednesday”.

Gleaming advantage

While Stars have shone brightly, Gerald is not going to let the glare of their recent league and cup success blind him in Chiefs quest for a win on Wednesday, as he added “our team I feel turned the corner with the win against SuperSport. After the Platinum Stars game the guys felt we needed to up our game and we did against SuperSport, it is now for us to step up to the plate and play to our strengths and use the fact that we are at home in front of our own fans to work in our favour”.

With a lot counting in their favour Chiefs are in an advantageous position on Wednesday evening, which could make Stars recent wins not count for much during the game. Sibeko adds, “after you win a game like the one we came through on Sunday you just get the feeling that as a group achieving bigger things is within your grasp”.
