Silver Stars could not find venue in Polokwane for this encounter and decided to take the match to Rustenburg. The Limpopo side are walking wounded following their 2-0 defeat at the hands of title chasing Ajax Cape Town.
The last time Owen da Gama’s charges tasted victory was in their February 8 clash against relegation threatened Zulu Royals. Since then it’s been a draw (against defending league champions Orlando Pirates) and three loses in succession.
It will be the first meeting between Amakhosi and Stars in a league match. The only other time they met in an official fixture was in the 2003 Coca-Cola Cup final with Chiefs winning 2-0 on that occasion. Stanton Fredericks and Patrick Mayo provided the goals.
Veteran midfielder John “Shoes” Moshoeu seem to have rediscovered his scoring touch following a fine goal against Sundowns over the weekend. He is not out of contention for the Golden Boot (now know as the Lesley award after departed Pirates and Bafana striker Lesley Manyathela). Moshoeu trails leading scorer Jacky Ledwaba by three.
The match kicks off at 20:00 and there will be no television broadcast.
