New Chiefs defender Tefu Mashamaite has been guided through his first camp as a Chiefs player by roommate and club captain Jimmy Tau at the Amakhosi’s pre-season base in Tshwane (Pretoria).

According to Mashamaite Tau has been helpful in helping him acclimatize to life at the Amakhosi.

“My roommate at the camp is Jimmy Tau, he has been very helpful in guiding me and talking me through the club protocol as well as what kind of expectations there are on us at the team.”

Of those expectations that come with playing for a club like the Amakhosi, Mashamaite explained, “life is about expectations you measure expectations for yourself.

When you play for a team like Chiefs you know what is expected of you and from you, and you need to work to ensure that you measure up to those expectations.

Chiefs is a big team a winning team and I do feel that we can keep up with those traditions and win something in the new season.”

According to Mashamaite his new teammates are ready to launch a serious title challenge this coming season.

“As a team we have not had a formal discussion about what we want to achieve in the new season.

Informally we have engaged with in discussions around these and some of the guys do believe especially some of the players who have been at the club a while that we can be really competitive and challenge for honours in the new season. The general feeling is that we can mount a serious challenge this season.”

Mashamaite has been loving his early days at Chiefs and while he and his teammates harbour ambitions of being amongst the title contenders in the months ahead, for now he is just focusing on getting into shape.

“The technical team are working on trying to get us to a certain fitness level, we have done a lot of conditioning training and we have been working very hard, the pre-season camp and the training programme is different to what I have experienced in the past.

I must say that I am enjoying myself, the training is proving beneficial for me and all the guys have been extremely welcoming towards me, so far so good.”
