Tau who along with his teammates was at the Chiefs village in Naturena for a team briefing said, “if we look and see how close we were to winning the title it makes you think about what might have been.
In the end it was so close and had we managed to pick up a single point elsewhere during the campaign we could have been champions, there was a game against Santos at home where it looked like the game it would be a draw and we conceded a late goal and lost.
Had we held on there for the point things might have been different, that just how close it was.”
Tau also points out that there are many lessons for Chiefs to learn, particularly the fact that they performed well in the big games as they won four, drew two and lost two games in their eight fixtures against the other teams who finished in the top five.
“We did very well against the likes of Pirates and Ajax as well as Sundowns in the first round, but if we look at our record against the teams from outside the top eight we dropped points in these games.
Which shows that we can play in the big games, some times against the smaller teams it is a bit of struggle, so we will learn from this experience and aim for better consistency. I do believe that there are also a lot of positive points for us to draw from this season.”
Of the plus points from the 2010 – 2011 season Tau explained these saying, “just taking the fact that going into the final day of the season we managed to find ourselves in the title race.
Speaks a volume for the kind of players we have in this team and we will continue on next season. We had the will this season and we will come back stronger next season, and will aim to correct our mistakes. Doing well against the big teams and your title rivals gives you a slight edge in the future.”
There is still a chance for Tau to win some individual silverware as he has been nominated for the Absa Premiership Player of the season award, for now the Chiefs skipper who started twenty eight league games for Chiefs and scored three goals this past campaign is looking ahead to getting some much needed rest.
As he added, “it has been a long season, it is time to recharge and be rested and ready for next season. I hope to get some rest and we will come back fit and ready for pre-season training.”
