“We just finished our Thursday training session and all went well,” Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela started saying at the Soweto Derby press conference at the PSL’s headquarters. He reflected on his side’s morning session, before adding: “It is always interesting when we meet Orlando Pirates.”

The Buccaneers will host Amakhosi in a Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon (kick-off is at 15:00).

“We will embrace the match as an occasion,” added Komphela. “Supporters from both clubs are eagerly looking forward to watch another Derby.”

Saturday’s match will be this season’s third official Derby. The two Soweto giants met each other twice in a league encounter (Pirates won one, the other ended in a draw) and once in a cup match, the Telkom Knockout semifinal, which was won by Amakhosi on penalties.

The Chiefs coach briefed the media about any players that might not be able to play on Saturday: “Injury wise we are all good and we will see who will be in the starting line-up on match day. However, Lorenzo Gordinho is suspended, due to having accumulated four yellow cards.”

On the defender’s absence, Komphela notes: “It is an opportunity for others to play. Suspensions are part of the game. However, be rest assured, we will have a central defence pairing to do the job for us.”

Komphela also spoke about Chiefs’ progress in cup competitions this season: “We have already reached two cup finals. But we don’t only want to get there. We want to win the trophy.”

Amakhosi reached both the MTN8 and the Telkom Knockout finals, only to lose them both.

The Nedbank Cup will give Chiefs another shot at an opportunity to win a cup this season.

In a concluding remark about Saturday’s Nedbank Cup Last 32 fixture against the Buccaneers, Komphela says: “Whether we win in 90 minutes of play or in extra time or on penalties doesn’t matter so much. Whichever way it comes, we plan to progress to the next round.”

Tickets for the Nedbank Cup Soweto Derby can be purchased at Computicket and Shoprite Checkers stores nationwide. The tickets will sell for R100 (level 1 and 2), R80 (level 3) and R15 for children under the age of 12. Parking tickets will cost R30.
