Soweto victory on Chiefs mind

Having been unable to win against any of their Soweto rivals in league action during the 2009/10 season. Amakhosi will be aiming to collect all three points when they make the short trek to the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Wednesday evening to face Moroka Swallows.

This will be Chiefs first meeting with any of team from Gauteng in the league although they have faced Orlando Pirates in the MTN 8 this campaign, on the back of their goalless draw with Platinum Stars Chiefs will be looking to bounce back with a win in this historically important fixture against their Soweto neighbours.

As confirmed by Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic during the build up to the game, the Amakhosi are expected once again to be without injured winger Siphiwe Tshabalala but should welcome back defender Valery Nahayo who missed the game against Platinum Stars with a knock to his leg.

Thus far Chiefs start to the season has seen them undefeated after three games while their Soweto rivals Swallows come into the game finding themselves precariously placed at the foot of the Absa Premiership table, having lost three and drawn one of their four games.

According to Chiefs coach Vermezovic Swallows current standings in the league are deceptive and the ‘Birds’ have played much better than their 16th place in the league would lead one to believe. Swallows coach Rainer Zobel has himself let in that his team lift their game against Chiefs and coming up against the Amakhosi naturally sees a lift in their game.

Zobel also reiterated that Swallows found themselves in a similar slump at the start of last season but managed to defeat Chiefs when the teams met early on during the 2009 – 2010 campaing, this fact will be noted by the Amakhosi technical team who will be wary of complacency in the Chiefs ranks.

According to Vermezovic both teams will put on a spectacular show for the fans, with the opportunity beckoning for the Amakhosi to possibly move up to second place in the league standings with a win, Chiefs will not relent and will be going in search of three points.

Last season Chiefs were defeated 2 – 1 by Swallows in the first game at the Orlando Stadium, and the teams played out a goalless draw during the return leg at Ellis Park, so there exists much motivation for Chiefs to want the win when they clash with Swallows this evening.
