The 90-year-old Victoria ‘Sisi’ Nomangesi Gasela was at the Chiefs Village earlier this week.
“It is wonderful and an honour to have you visit us,” Chairman Kaizer Motaung told Gasela, who prefers to be called, ‘Sisi Victoria’.
“This is a blessing. It is special and it offers one a moment for reflection when meeting people like Victoria Sisi, who has followed Kaizer Chiefs since its inception in 1970. It is a reminder not to forget where we come from. Thank you so much to Sisi Victoria and her family for this visit.”
The 90-year-old’s visit was set-up by her grandchildren. One of them, Ayanda Gasela, said: “Sisi Victoria is a massive Kaizer Chiefs supporter and we thought that it would be nice for her to meet her favourite person, Mr Kaizer Motaung.
“We wish to thank Kaizer Chiefs and Mr Motaung for accepting our wish.”
Looking stunning and sharp for a 90-year-old, Sisi Victoria refuses to be called Mama or Gogo. “I absolutely love Kaizer Chiefs, since I fell in love with this beautiful club when still a youngster.
“I wish the players would know how much I love them, because when this team loses a match, I struggle to fall asleep. That’s how deep my support for Kaizer Chiefs goes.”
Flanked by her children and grandchildren, emanating from Dawnpark in the East Rand, Sisi Victoria also had an opportunity to meet and greet some of the Amakhosi players and officials.
The Chairman presented Gasela with a full Kaizer Chiefs kit.
“This visit will go a long way to encourage us to work even harder,” concluded the ever-appreciative Motaung, “because knowing that we are standing on the shoulders of giants like Sisi Victoria and others, we can only be strengthened in our efforts.
“We know that every year after the 70-mark is a bonus and we wish Sisi Victoria to enjoy many more years to come. It is encouraging to see the she’s still energetic and looking healthy.”
In her response, Gasela wished Kaizer Chiefs all the best in their upcoming league and cup matches. “I wish you all of the best in your upcoming matches and let’s hope we will be able to lift the Nedbank Cup.”
