“Everybody understands what is expected of them this evening,” says coach Ernest Middendorp ahead of the match against Mamelodi Sundowns. “We go into the match fully aware of what is at stake. The stakes are high, and we are prepared for it.”
This evening will see what is arguably one of the biggest clashes between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns. The football fraternity and pundits have termed this mouthwatering fixture ‘the title decider’, even though there will are still three more games to play after the fixture.
“The spirit in the camp is high,” adds Middendorp. “The energy is positive, and we are looking forward to this evening. We will miss the services of Samir Nurković and we are waiting for a decision on Leonardo Castro.”
Nurković is serving a one match suspension while Castro is doubtful due to a hamstring injury that saw him get substituted early in the last match.
“Otherwise the rest of the squad is available for selection,” confirms Middendorp, “including Mulomowandau Mathoho and Lebogang Manyama who missed the match against Stellenbosch FC. We do not want to reveal much at this stage. We have done our homework on Sundowns. Obviously, there are no certainties in terms of possible line-ups due to the fixtures congestion.”
Chiefs go into the match leading the log with 53 points, 3 ahead of chasers Sundowns. Both teams have played 26 matches.
The match will be broadcast live on SS4 and SABC radio stations, with commentary coming through the twitter handle @KaizerChiefs.
