Kaizer Chiefs will be at home in the last eight stage as they continue the defence of their Telkom Knock Out Cup title, and will be up against Free State Stars as they go in search of their seventh Telkom Cup crown.

At the draw for the ¼ Finals conducted at the Plush Melrose arch complex in Northern Johannesburg The Amakhosi were one of the four seeded teams and were drawn second out of the hat, to face Stars.

Representing Chiefs at the draw was midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane who warned that the Amakhosi face a very challenging encounter against the rapidly improving Free Stater’s, “in cup matches it really does not matter who we face as long as you ready for the challenge we know it will be hard playing Stars. They did well to overcome Ajax in the round of sixteen, we are at home and have that advantage on our side.”

Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung welcomed the fact that The Amakhosi will be hosting the game, “cup football is always exciting and we happy that we can get to host the game so that we can do a number of activations around the game and we are looking forward to a full house when we play Stars.”

The meeting between Chiefs and Stars will be the third between the teams since the inception of the Premier Soccer League in 1996 - 1997, the two previous meetings between the teams ended in success for Chiefs.

On the first occasion over two legs during the 1998 – 1999 season Chiefs defeated Stars in the Rothmans Cup as the Telkom Knock Out Cup was previously known 3 – 2 on aggregate.

After a 2-0 victory away from home in the first leg Chiefs went down 2-1 at the Rand Stadium, crucially Neil Tovey’s 78th minute goal was enough to seal Chiefs passage beyond the round of 16 and into the last eight.

It was another ten seasons later in 2008 – 2009 when the teams came face to face once again and this time it was in the Nedbank Cup round of 32, it took a single strike from current Chiefs assistant coach Arthur Zwane in the 113th minute to settle the tie to hand Chiefs a 1 – 0 victory.

The Premier Soccer League will announce before the end of the week the venues and dates for the last eight games.
