Kaizer Chiefs face a testing trip to the Wester Cape province, after Monday’s quarterfinals draw determined they will meet Stellenbosch FC away for a place in the last four of this season’s Nedbank Cup.
The confirmed date, venue and kick-off time will be confirmed and announced in due course.
Chiefs will know they are in for a struggle but will certainly relish the challenge, having already done the league double over the Winelands team, most recently less than a fortnight ago.
On hearing news of their next opponents, Amakhosi defender, Dillan Solomons tells www.kaizerchiefs.com, “It’s a good draw, I think. Obviously, there are a lot of good teams still in the competition so playing Stellenbosch in Cape town will be a test for the boys, but they’ll be ready for it.”
Solomons continues, “They are a very tough team to play against, especially in Cape Town but we have already beaten them twice this season. We will give them the respect they deserve but we will be focused on our own game plan, which has served us well against them.”
It is a painful reality that Chiefs have not lifted a major trophy in some time and hopes are beginning to rise following two emphatic victories in the opening rounds of the Nedbank Cup. Solomons, too, has his sights set on glory but is aware there is much work to do to get there.
“We are very happy about our progression into the next stage but obviously our goal is to go all the way and win it,” he says, with the added reminder, “Still, we concentrate only on the next game, no further.”
The athletic fullback is on his way back to fitness, following time on the sidelines with injury, and he is looking forward to running out in the Gold & Black soon.
“My rehabilitation is going really well,” he says, ”I’m back in full training now; obviously not match fit but I am working very hard on that and hopefully I’ll be back in contention shortly.”
