Like it was last weekend when they travelled to Botshabelo in the Free State where they played against Free State Stars, the Amakhosi are on the move again this weekend as they travel to Polokwane where they will play host to BIDVest Wits on Saturday evening at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in what will be their final home encounter in the Absa Premiership for 2010.

History

Chiefs and Wits have long standing rivalry which goes back some three decades, this fixture is a derby and as the teams both hail from the Johannesburg area and are from Gauteng. The fact that the game is a derby gives it a special edge as games between the teams are generally physical encounters producing its fair share of goals.

In three of the last four seasons a pattern has emerged in this fixture with Wits winning games when they are the visiting team while the results have worked in the reverse with Chiefs winning when hosted by Wits in each of the last four seasons.

This pattern was disturbed during the 2008 – 2009 season when Chiefs defeated Wits home and away, it was in that season that Chiefs also managed to record their largest goal tally against Wits in the PSL era when they defeated them 4 -1 in the away game.

Amakhosi coach Vladimir Vermezovic will be hoping that Chiefs repeat the feat of what happened in 08 -09 and win their home game on Saturday, Chiefs largest victory over Wits was a 5 -1 triumphed they achieved over the Students in the 1990 season.

Current form

The Amakhosi head into the game on the back of two consecutive league defeats having gone done to Vasco Da Gama and Free State Stars in successive games, and have won two of their last five league games having lost the other three.

Wits for their part have had an indifferent run as well they come into the game off a 3 – 3 draw with Amazulu and prior to that they suffered a 3 – 1 loss to Ajax Cape Town, of their last five league games Wits have won two, lost one and drawn two.

Chiefs will be hoping to repeat their recent success at the Peter Mokaba Stadium as they did when they hosted and defeated Santos in a Telkom Knockout Cup Semi-final encounter last month.

Missing out

Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermzeovic does not have any injuries or suspensions to deal with while Wits are without suspended winger Sifiso Myeni. The Amakhosi though are still without winger Siphiwe Tshabalala who is in period of mourning following the passing away of his mother a fortnight ago.
