It was revealed by PSL head of communications and marketing Ntambi Ravele that just a couple of hundred tickets remain for Saturday’s blockbuster game, which is a repeat of the 2004 Supa8 Final when Chiefs narrowly lost to SuperSport by a goal to nil.
“As per the information we received early on Tuesday morning, not many tickets remain for Saturday’s cup final. More than 36 000 have already been sold which is good because it means that we will have a full, vibrant stadium on Saturday” said Ravele.
The PSL and sponsors South African Airways have also embarked on a special project of involving the larger Ethekwini community in the build-up to the game, by promoting the final around Durban.
The first of these initiatives will involve both teams travelling to Kwa Mashu where they will hand over a set of soccer kit and balls to the learners of the Amadlethu Secondary School. Thereafter Chiefs and SuperSport will hand over another set of kit, this time the lucky recipients of the kits and balls will be the learners of the Isibonelo Secondary School in the peri-urban district of Inanda.
These initiatives, which will be held on Thursday, along with an open top bus parade by both teams around the Durban CBD at lunchtime on Thursday, are aimed at ensuring that soccer fans in and around Durban come in large numbers to witness what is going to be one of the most thrilling Supa8 Finals yet.
Amakhosi PRO Thebe Mohatle has urged Chiefs fans attending the game to come early to the stadium on Saturday, as well as reaching out and asking fans to adhere to FIFA’S principals of Fair Play, as he said “Saturday is going to be a real fun day, and I would also urge fans to be early at the stadium and to not be disruptive in any way and allow for the game to we viewed and played in a friendly atmosphere”.
While the Chiefs PRO was diplomatic about Saturday’s game and to its outcomes, his counterpart from SuperSport United David Skhosana, was clearer as to where he would like the trophy to go as he said “we will thrash Chiefs on Saturday. It is going to be the same way that it was in 2004, if Chiefs beat SuperSport I will walk from Johannesburg to Pretoria.”
Gates at the ABSA Stadium will open at 15h00 on Saturday, and fans will be kept entertained by performances from various artists including Shwi, Alaska, Kabelo, Black Jack as well as Durban favourite DJ Tira. Travel packages for the game are available from South African Airways; these include a return ticket to Durban, ground transfers to and from the stadium and hotel to the airport, general tickets to the stadium and one night’s accommodation.
Fans wishing to purchase these packages may do so by logging onto www.flysaa.com or could call (011) 978 1144.
Kick off for the game is at 20h10.
