Historically, this was the teams’ sixth meeting in the knockout cup, with Chiefs winning for a fifth time. It was their fourth win in a row against SuperSport in the knockout cup.
Chiefs’ previous four wins over SuperSport in this competition had been by a score of 1-0. This was Chiefs’ biggest win in this tournament over SuperSport.
Chiefs are heading to the quarterfinals in the PSL era for a 20th time.
This was Chiefs’ biggest ever win over SuperSport and the third time they have scored four goals against them. It was the third time Chiefs had scored four goals in any game against SuperSport. They did so in a 4-1 league win away from home in 2015/16 and in a 4-2 league win away from home in the 1998/99 season.
Chiefs have won all three of their away games this season in all competitions.
Gaston Sirino scored and assisted in this game. It was the second time this season that he had done so in the same match, having also done it in Chiefs’ 3-1 league win over AmaZulu on 25 September.
