Kaizer Chiefs (0)

Moroka Swallows (2) 2 (Bhengu 22, 32)

Caution: Radebe, Oerson

Kaizer Chiefs lost their third game of the season to Moroka Swallows at Rustenburg’s Olympia stadium today. Phumelele Bhengu scored two well taken goals at the 22nd and 32nd minute handing his team a win against Soweto rivals.

The visitors, Kaizer Chiefs started strongly with George Lebese making his first start in the famous gold and black jersey showing some deft touches but it was hosts, Moroka Swallows who came close when David Radebe’s first time volley rattled the upright. This was following a long ball from goalkeeper, Greg Itafia.

Moroka Swallows took the lead at the 22nd minute when David Radebe’s pace helped set up Phumele Bhengu to score from a close range; this was via Cecil Oerson’s flick.

The Glamour Boys should have replied a few minutes later when Greg Etafia parried Reneilwe Letsholonyane’s strike but striker Jose Torrealba’s follow up on the rebound was well saved by the opposition goalkeeper.

Phumelele Bhengu completed his brace at the 32nd minute when Itumeleng Khune failed to hold on to Cecil Oerson’s free kick from 25 yards.

The young striker pounced on the rebound to give his side a comfortable lead.

David Radebe was a menace toKaizer Chiefs defence and his daunting runs nearly created a third goal for Phumelele Bhengu but Onismor Bhasera made a crucial tackle denying the young striker a hattrick.

Halftime score was 2-0 to Swallows.

At the beginning of the second stanza, Kaizer Chiefs coach made changes bringing on Arthur Zwane and Gert Schalkwyk replacing David Mathebula and Valery Nahayo respectively.

But it was hosts, Moroka Swallows who started the second half the same way they finished the first one as a half clearance from Onismor Bhasera fell on the foot of Lefa Tsutsulupa who unleashed a powerful shot but was denied by the upright.

Swallows defender Da Silva came close to scoring an own goal when his header hit the crossbar following a sublime cross from George Lebese.

Chiefs started to show what they are capable of – came close when a good interplay involving Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Jose Torrealba set up for young Lebese - but he ballooned his shot.

Greg Etafia was called to work hard as Gert Schalkwyk forced him to tip over his flying header from a cross from another substitute, Arthur Zwane.

David Radebe was at it again as his cheeky flick set up Phumele Bhengu but goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune redeemed himself pulling a good save.

Mandla Masango could have pulled one back for Chiefs after being superbly set up by Reneilwe Letsholonyane but Greg Etafia pulled a brilliant save denying the youngster from a close range.

The Nigerian born, Greg Etafia was at his best once again brilliantly denying Gert Schalkwyk from close range. This was following some neat work by the youngster, Mandla Masango who beat Ramamahlwe Mphahlele with pace to cross for Gert Schalkwyk.

The final score was at the end of the day not a true reflection of the proceedings as the visitors created enough opportunities to at least come back with a draw. It is back to drawing board for the boys from Naturena who might return to action in three weeks time depending on when they are playing in the Telkom Knockout.

This week more than ten players will be off to their respective national teams owing to Fifa international date.
