Sweswe learns from Swallows elimination

Despite Baroka FC’s giant-slaying act in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 against Moroka Swallows Amakhosi defender Thomas Sweswe remains upbeat about Chiefs’ chances against the team from the Limpopo Province, when they face them in a Cup Quarter-final clash at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com Sweswe explained that the Amakhosi were not going to stand on ceremony and were ready to take the fight to the team from the Vodacom League which is the third tier of South African football.

“They won their game against Swallows and have been doing well in their league games, we won’t fear them or be concerned by that. If anything the game against Swallows has given us and idea of what to expect from them, there are many lessons that we can take out from that game.”

Sweswe also believes that Baroka will play with the same offensive mindset that they did against the Dube Birds and is prepared for what ever they may throw at the Amakhosi, “I do feel that they will stick to what worked for them the last time which was all out attack, we do know that we have to be wary of allowing them to dominate us and we will guard against that.”

The Chiefs central defender has also been keeping a keen eye on the fighting talk coming out of the Baroka FC camp, and is hoping to respond by putting up a firm strong performance at the back on Sunday.

“I have read that they have dubbed the game against us as a dream draw, it is our job now to make it as difficult as possible for them as possible, we are aware that they are highly motivated for the game.

So it is important for us to focus on the game and keep our objective which is to reach the last four ahead of us. We close to the semi-finals so it is better for us to keep our minds on getting there and not think of anything else.”

With Chiefs heading to Limpopo for the fifth time this season Sweswe is equally confident that they can keep up their unbeaten run at the Peter Mokaba Stadium as he said of this.

“We have played in Polokwane already four times and have won three of those games, so it helps that we are used to playing there. What always helps is that we have good support there and I am sure the stadium will be decked out in gold and black again.”
