Amakhosi skipper Jimmy Tau has enjoyed a successful spell at the club since his transfer from Orlando Pirates in September 2005 around six years ago, in this time he has won six cup titles.

He has the opportunity this weekend to keep up those winning ways when the Amakhosi take on Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 Cup Final at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, as he explained he fully intends to add to his medal collection.

“I have been blessed to have been able to have tasted success in each season that I have been here,” was Tau’s humble reply before he continued on to add “I very much would like for us to keep that winning trend going.”

Tau has also managed to achieve another unique feat, since taking over as club captain at the beginning of the 2008 – 2009 season he has lead a victorious Chiefs team in the three previous seasons that he has skippered the club up the podium to collect their Cup Final winners medals.

Having achieved that twice in the Telkom Knockout and once previously in the MTN8 competition, he said of desire to take lead Chiefs to a fourth cup title “I can never get tired of winning titles and trophies, I would love to win another cup this weekend and hopefully as a team we can do that.

Being part of a club that does well in Cup competitions is an honour to play for Chiefs and win a Cup Final. As the current generation of this team we want to live up to and emulate the successes of the past.”

With six previous appearances in cup finals to his name Tau does feel that he can draw on those past experiences going into Saturday’s crunch game, as helps his teammates deal with pre-match butterflies.

“I think it comes with time, the more Cup finals you play in the better equipped you are to deal with the nerves that come with the occasion.

From Cup final to cup final you learn a lot and carry those lessons through with you, hopefully we will be calm and also manage to keep our focus.”

On the issue of Saturday’s Cup final Tau believes that Chiefs have had to beat through a difficult path to get to the final, and are fully ready for the challenge.

“I am not sure how Pirates will approach the game; we want to do well in the final we did not have an easy route to get here.

We had to battle our way to get through, credit to the tem for getting together and fighting to ensure that we reached the final. I am confident that we will get down to business and do a good job on Saturday.”

In winding down his conversation with Kaizerchiefs.com Tau called on Chiefs 12th player their fans to get behind them on Saturday when they take on Pirates, “in terms of driving the team forward the fans have been our backbone. They have always been there for us and we rely on them to help us push forward.”
