Amakhosi skipper Jimmy Tau has revealed to Kaizerchiefs.com that the team have put their recent victory over Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates behind them and are fully focused on their upcoming Telkom Knockout Cup Semi-final clash with Santos in Polokwane on Saturday evening.

Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com after training on Tuesday afternoon Tau said, “there is a new challenge ahead of us and that is Santos in the Cup Semi-final. We have put behind us the win over Pirates, we do hope though to use the momentum we gained from that victory to push us on to another win.”

With a number of Chiefs players away on international duty this week the Amakhosi are expecting them to return on Thursday and will head off on Friday to work the Limpopo Province for the game. Giving the team a limited amount of time together ahead of the game, according to Tau this may not be ideal for the Amakhosi but they will work with the situation.

As he said, “it is not ideal for us to be missing so many players this week but we understand that the guys are representing their country’s and we wish them the best in this regard. If it means that because we have had less time to prepare together we are not the favoured team going into the match that is fine as the underdog tag will suit us.”

According to Tau buckling down and working on the task at hand will place the Amakhosi in a position to strongly challenge Santos on Saturday night at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

“We are aware of the task ahead of us and everyone is really focused on coming through the game successfully, we have played Santos in Cup games before and a number of us have played against them and we know just how challenging playing them will be.”

As the Chiefs captain further explained despite Chiefs’ holding a statistical edge over Santos in Cup games it will not have any bearing on the outcome of the game, “even though we have tasted victory over them in the past it really does not count for much.

This is a new cup game with different players on both sides, for us we just need to play our part and turn up with another committed and spirited performance like we have done all season long.”
