“You wouldn't play for Chiefs if you were ordinary,” said Kaizer Chiefs legend Vusi ‘Computer’ Lamola, while speaking at the Memorial Service of the late Petrus ‘Ten-Ten’ Nzimande “He was one special player.”
The memorial service of the legendary former Amakhosi midfielder was held at Durban's Chief Albert Luthuli Hall on Friday afternoon.
“To be captain you had to be special and Ten-Ten was one of a kind,” Lamola continued. “He was intelligent in an amazing way. He was also immensely fit and very strong.”
Amongst those who gathered to pay respect to the legendary Nzimande were locals from KwaZulu-Natal’s various communities. Chiefs legends Ryder Mofokeng, Computer Lamola, Gerald Dlamini and Bizzah Dlamini represented the Club.
“We were more of a family than a football team,” commented Lamola about the founding principle that continues 46 years after the birth of this iconic brand.
“I don't know how to express myself in proper isiZulu,” echoed the legendary and long serving past Chiefs captain Ryder Mofokeng. “Ten-Ten was a pillar of strength in the field of play.”
“The players from KZN were amazing and always well-behaved. We will not forget Ten-Ten,” concluded Mofokeng. “I wish the present Chiefs players could take a leaf from the past.”
Chiefs legends from far and wide, joined by the Club’s leadership, will attend the funeral service of the late Ten-Ten Nzimande in Mooi River (KZN) on Sunday, 27 November. The service will start at 10:00.
