It still took more minutes for Musona to settle down for an interview as fans who had came to the Village wanted a picture opportunity with a player that in a short of time really made everyone ‘ sit and take notice’ after joining the Club as a 19-year-old back in June 2009.
“I will always make time for fans. They supported me and most importantly they have rallied behind the team since my arrival here so I am always grateful to them. I also know that it will be the last time I get to meet them,” said the emotional Musona.
Kaizerchiefs.com: How would you sum up your two year stay with the Glamour Boys?
Knowledge Musona: (Smiling) it has been great from the moment I arrived here. I only have good memories. I really enjoyed my stay here. I especially liked the celebrations when we win trophies as a team.
It is unfortunate that I am leaving having not won the Absa Premiership. It was my biggest dream to win the league with the Club. I am confident that the guys will deliver the league title to Naturena this season.
Kaizerchiefs.com: How has South Africa treated you as a country?
Knowledge Musona: I have enjoyed every minute in this country. Of course SA is different to what I was used to back home in Zimbabwe and I had to adapt and that was not a problem as people here were very nice to me. There are good people here.
Kaizerchiefs.com: Share with us the moment that stands out during your two year stay with the Club?
Knowledge Musona: The night we lifted Telkom Knockout at FNB was special in two ways; we made history becoming the first team in the world to win the same trophy in the same year and we beat our rivals, Orlando Pirates.
That night every member of the ‘family’ was over the moon. Those memories will forever be engraved in my heart.
Kaizerchiefs.com: What in your opinion makes Chiefs different to other Clubs?
Knowledge Musona: Organisation and professionalism from the Management down on the field. I must also say that the Chiefs fans are also special. They should continue supporting the Club like they do. It was really nice going around the country and playing in full stadiums. I want to thank the supporters for that.
Kaizerchiefs.com: Which pitch did you like playing in most?
Knowledge Musona: It has to be Peter Mokaba in Polokwane. Great pitch and also in all the games we have played there the stadium has been full which makes a great atmosphere.
Kaizerchiefs.com: Who was your best friend at Chiefs?
Knowledge Musona: I managed to get along with everyone. I joked with all the guys and everyone was equally good to me.
Kaizerchiefs.com: Who do you think is the funniest guy in the team?
Knowledge Musona: Itumeleng Khune took over from Valery Nahayo. Khune is forever cracking jokes.
Kaizerchiefs.com: Ladies man?
Knowledge Musona: (laughing) Tshabalala is very popular with ladies and whenever we travelled the ladies would be screaming his name. I cannot confirm though on whether he is ladies man or not.
Kaizerchiefs.com: Your nickname, Smiling Assassin…where did you get such nickname?
Knowledge Musona: (Cutting in) from you (kaizerchiefs.com). In fact today you need to tell me why did you give me the name? (Smiling).
Kaizerchiefs.com: Which moment do you regard as the lowest point during your stay here?
Knowledge Musona: Every game that we have not won but the game we drew against Pirates early February this year hurt me most. It took a while for me to bounce back from such a disappointment. I cannot forget the game at Loftus against Sundowns. Those games were crucial for us to win the league.
Kaizerchiefs.com: What kind of influence did your compatriot, Tinashe Nengomasha have on you.
Knowledge Musona: Tinashe takes the game very seriously. He gives 100% whether it’s training, friendly or a game and this rubbed off me. He told me on the first day that I need to work hard because Chiefs is a big team. He has been very supportive throughout and he was happy to hear that I will be going to Europe.
Kaizerchiefs.com: On your arrival in the country, it was easy to see that you are quality. What is it that was done at Black Aces Academy to mould you into such a player?
Knowledge Musona: Our coaches at the Academy emphasized the importance of mastering the basics like trapping the ball, passing, juggling and shooting. I remember that we would do shooting after training and if you don’t score you don’t go to take a shower. This became part of me…so if I do not score I do not go home. I use the same mentality in games. It is important to score goals as a striker but I have also always known that the team comes first.
Kaizerchiefs.com: Do you feel you are a better player than you were two years ago?
Knowledge Musona: I have developed tremendously as a player and I would like to thank the Coach (Vladimir Vermezovic) including the rest of the Technical Team for their contribution in my development as a player. I am the first to admit that technically I still need to improve. This is one aspect of the game that you will always work on as a player. I want to finish better and I want a better first touch…the technique has to be better.
Kaizerchiefs.com: You must be excited with a prospect of playing in the Bundesliga in the upcoming season…
Knowledge Musona: I am looking forward to the opportunity. It is a great achievement for me and my country to have a player playing at that level. I want to settle quicker in the team. The training will not be a problem as they use the same training methods we use at Chiefs. There is also a couple of Africans in the Club which is a great. While I was there all the guys were happy with me and all that is left is for me to work hard and repay the Club the faith they have shown in me.
Kaizerchiefs.com: On Saturday you will be limited to the box despite the fans voting for you to play in the Carling Cup…
Knowledge Musona: I was looking forward playing my last game at FNB Stadium and saying goodbye to the supporters. It is a pity that I signed my contract this week and now I belong to Hoffenheim. Still I am grateful for the supporters voting for me. I will go to the stadium to support the guys, but I do feel that I owe the supporters at Chiefs one more game. I am going to Europe now and I am sure one day I will come back and don the famous gold and black.
