Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane went down on his knees, taking a moment to ‘communicate’ to the higher powers, as referee Daniel Bennett blew his whistle to signal the end of what was a pulsating clash that saw the Glamour Boys beat Sundowns at Soccer City on Wednesday, 2 May, 2012.

Letsholonyane, sidelined by an injury since January, replaced Lucky Baloyi in the 46th minute with the sides level and was instrumental in helping his side register a 2-0 victory that dented Sundowns’ hopes of winning the Absa Premiership title.

It was not a surprise that ‘Yeye’, as he is known in football circles, was named Man of the Match after the game, despite only coming in as a substitute; “I would like to first thank God for all what He has done for me. I would like to thank the family at the Village, including my family and fans for the support they gave me during the time in the sidelines,” he said after the game.

“It was very important for us to win this game; more than for me winning the Man of the Match award. It was frustrating watching my teammates week in week out on the pitch while I was sidelined.

“When we struggled it was even very difficult but the guys were playing well and I was confident that we were going to turn the corner soon. Credit should go to everyone this evening for doing this well against a good side. “

‘Maestro’, as Letsholonyane is known to kaizerchiefs.com, said he was not surprised at recovering quicker after the medical team reported that he was ‘possibly out for the rest of the season’.

“I would like to also thank the medical team for a job well done. I did not really dwell on what was said when I got injured and I just focused on rehabilitation and working hard. I wanted to come back and contribute to the team and I am now happy to be back in the thick of things, looking forward to making a contribution.
