“I will take responsibility, that’s what drives me,” says Willard Katsande, who has been in excellent form this season.
Kaizer Chiefs host the Zimbabwean’s former team, Ajax Cape Town, on Saturday evening at the FNB Stadium (kick-off is at 20:15).
“They now have a very different team from the one I played for,” Katsande reflects. The midfielder played for the Urban Warriors during the 2010/2011 season.
Amakhosi don’t have the easiest of seasons. Katsande, however, prefers not to dwell too much on what went right or wrong: “We win and lose together as a team. Of course, I scored a few goals this season, but at the end I will be judged with my teammates as a collective. But I am optimistic that we will soon turn the corner.”
To be fair, Chiefs played well against Mpumalanga Black Aces, despite the draw. Katsande had another fine performance, even netting the 2-1, before the home side equalised in the dying seconds of the match.
Katsande has so far scored five times in the 2015/2016 Absa Premiership.
“I don’t think we have been as bad as many people perceive,” the midfielder explains. “The problem is that we have failed to turn our dominance in more goals.” As a result, Amakhosi have already drawn ten league matches this season.
About Chiefs coach Steve Komphela, Katsande says: “He deserves our full support. We just need an element of luck to show the work that we put in to prepare for the games.”
Amakhosi welcome the Urban Warriors at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, 16 April. Kick-off is at 20:15 (gates open at 17:30).
Match tickets are available at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers for R40 only.
