Kaizer Chiefs engages arch nemesis Orlando Pirates in the finals of the Telkom Knockout Competition to defend the title they won early in the season.

Dubbed the “ultimate final” since the two giants locked horns during the finals of the ABSA 2005/6 season that the Amakhosi won on penalties in Durban, the encounter has already brought the country to a standstill long before the much anticipated kickoff.

Kaizer Chiefs enters the fray as defending champions whilst Orlando Pirates wishes to emulate the upset they caused during the semifinals of the equally lucrative MTN 8 competition recently.

On the other hand, Orlando Pirates holds fresh memories of a drubbing they suffered from Kaizer Chiefs in the league encounter from a stadium that will host the day of reckoning between the two.

The epic encounter is poised to draw an intense and bitterly fought battle between the two teams whose history of rivalry is certain to continue for years to come.

The Amakhosi will be in full strength after resting several of its key players for the unfortunately lost league game against Vasco Da Gama.

On the other hand, Orlando Pirates has just won its league encounter against Maritzburg United, a team they accounted for in the semi finals of the Telkom Knockout. They will certainly want to continue their winning streak unfortunately against a Kaizer Chiefs that holds a reputation as cup specialists since its birth forty years ago.

With match tickets already sold out, Marketing Director Jessica Motaung stated “Saturday the fourth is a day of reckoning for Kaizer Chiefs to deliver a worthy Christmas present to millions of its supporters.

The stage is set to entertain and defend our title of the lucrative cup that Kaizer Chiefs has tended to own since inception from the NPSL times.

We are looking forward to nourish the spirit of competition between the two teams and we may thus not fail.”

Reclaiming the title will put Kaizer Chiefs into the records of football history for being the first team to win the same title in one season.

To crown the day, the Amakhosi Supporters Club will open its Naturena Headquarters to host myriads of travelling supporters for a chance to meet officials and purchase the fashionable and authentic merchandise that is laid in their opulent store.

In addition, the unit shall process membership card applications and address several organizational matters that affect their branch structures before the start of the match.

The already packed stadium sees the two teams completing a record five meetings including the Telkom Charity, the two semi finals of the MTN 8, and a league encounter in less than ten months within a football season.

A win for Kaizer Chiefs means four strikes to one; an achievement that clearly crown the essence of a derby rivalry that has carved the football sporting landscape in South Africa.

“it is important that our supporters turn in large numbers to dominate proceedings on the pavilions to finally claim their stature as proverbial champions of football in Southern Africa” said the elated Cecil Motaung; Supporters Relations Manager.

With all systems in place, Kaizer Chiefs’ chances are obviously huge to claim the day of reckoning. Clad in gold and black, our supporters will sit on the Eastern and Northern stands of the grand stadium to spur their champion players to an epic win.
