On Saturday, 25 September 2010, Kaizer Chiefs players made an appearance at the Club’s Stall at the Soweto Festival.

The Kaizer Chiefs Stall was without a doubt the most popular and when players arrived, led by Gerald Sibeko, the enthusiastic crowd came to the Stall.

The young Lucky Khune was the most popular with the crowd screaming his name, “It is always nice when we come and interact with our fans. The fans were happy to see me and for me this shows that I am doing something right. I also see this as encouragement for me to put in more effort at training,” said the visibly delighted Khune.

Marketing Director Jessica Motaung, Brand Manager Dara Carroll and Supporters Retail Manager Emmanuel Khumalo were also there to interact with the fans.

It was also an opportunity for the Supporters Club to sign up new members and renew membership; Kaizer Chiefs merchandise was on sale as well as the Club's 40th anniversary jersey, which is still the most popular among the fans.

The Club’s long serving midfielder, Gerald Sibeko, a Soweto native, was equally delighted to have an opportunity to attend the Soweto Festival, “It is the first time for me to come to the festival and it is a good thing for such an event to happen in Soweto.”

“This brings a lot of cultures together including emerging businesses. Chiefs is the biggest sports brands in the country and we did the right thing to come here because this is where our roots are - in Soweto,” said Sibeko who together with other players did a walkabout and signed autographs.

The Soweto Festival has its roots in the Soweto Homemakers Festival of the mid-1980s which was a joint venture between Adele Lucas Promotions and the Soweto Chamber of Commerce. The Festival Expo is currently jointly owned and run by Adele Lucas Promotions and the Greater Soweto Business Forum, the umbrella body representing Soweto business.
