“The job is not done yet,” states Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo upon his third call up to Bafana Bafana.

“Yes, it is a great feeling, but I still have a lot of work to do. Definitely, a call up is an indication of a step in the right direction for any player.”

Khuzwayo was called up to the national team following his scintillating performances for his team. He recently starred in Amakhosi’s triumph over Orlando Pirates in the final of the MTN8 Cup. “I know most of the guys in the squad. It is now a matter of gelling as a team,” continues the Umlazi-born goalkeeper.

“I have played under coach Mashaba before at the U-23s and this selection comes as a great sign of confidence in my abilities. I hope to work hard and keep pushing myself to become a regular in the national team.”

We caught up with the talented goalie after the Bafana Bafana’s training session in their Durban camp on Tuesday afternoon. Khuzwayo adds: “We had a good session. We are looking forward to the game on Saturday.”

Khuzwayo played for the U-23s on 29 occasions. He has one Bafana Bafana cap to his name, making his debut against Equatorial Guinea on 6 January 2012. “That was when Pitso Mosimane was still the Bafana coach,” recalls Khuzwayo.

Darren Keet and Siyabonga Mpontshane are the other two goalkeepers called up by Mashaba. South Africa will be playing in their final 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan at home and away against Nigeria.

Bafana’s match against Sudan is on Saturday, 15 November, at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium (kick-off is at 15:00).
