“Kaizer Chiefs’ opponents always come out with all guns blazing and BidVest Wits will be no different,” says Morgan Gould about Amakhosi’s Absa Premiership encounter home away from home against the Clever Boys at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, 19 December (kick-off is at 18:00).
The strong defender made a welcome comeback in an official match in Wednesday’s Telkom Knockout final. The experienced Gould had been out for long since tearing his Achilles tendon against Morocco’s Raja Casablanca earlier this year.
“The bigger the occasion the better,” reflected the defender on making his comeback in the Telkom Knockout final.
Sadly, Gould’s fine performance wasn’t enough for the Amakhosi to take the Telkom Knockout trophy.
About the 3-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns, he comments: “That’s now water under the bridge. We are professionals, we can’t stand still too long looking at negatives. We are looking forward and that’s the Wits game on Saturday.”
About Chiefs playing three of this season’s league games in the Cape of Love & Peace, the 32-old defender says: “Cape Town is beautiful, it’s very nice to be here. I ask our supporters to come out in numbers and be our 12th man on Saturday. The Wits game is crucial to stay in contention for the league title.”
The Clever Boys are presently on top of the Absa Premiership log with 26 points from 11 matches, while Amakhosi are eight points behind, having collected 18 points from the same number of games played.
“It’s early in the season and there is still a lot to play for,” Gould points out. “The league is a marathon, not a sprint. We just need to go out on Saturday and give a good show of ourselves and win the game.”
Amakhosi’s three home games in Cape Town will feature the following opponents:
