“The new away jersey is remarkable,” enthuses George Lebese about Kaizer Chiefs’ new away jersey for the 2016/2017 season. “It’s iconic and it reminds one of the 2001/2002 season.”

Kaizer Chiefs won the Mandela Cup, also called the CAF Cup Winners’ Cup, wearing a jersey quite similar to this season’s new away jersey. That was also the jersey worn by former South African president Nelson Mandela.

“That was the team with, amongst others, Jabu Pule, Stanton Fredericks, Brian Baloyi, Marco Mthembu and Gerald Sibeko,” Lebese continues. “The new one is slightly different in the sense that the colours from Gold into Black and Black into Gold flow slowly into each other. It’s beautifully designed. I love it.”

“The jersey is also very light, it feels nice tight around the body and it breezes, you don’t sweat in it,” adds Lebese, “it’s a joy to wear it. Nike has done a superb job.”

The Amakhosi winger was chosen by the supporters to be included in the starting line-up for the Carling Black Label Champion Cup against Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon, 30 July 2016.
