It is for the supporters – Chiefs

The rivalry between the two Soweto giants will take the centre stage tomorrow when the Amakhosi meet their nemesis, the Buccaneers at FNB Stadium.

Chiefs, the defending Champions of the Carling Black Label Cup have vowed to give it their all for the supporters.

Coach Stuart Baxter said;

"It's a practice match in Grand Prix format. We have to get off the mark as quick as we can. We will do all what's possible to make it good for the supporters. The players were selected by the supporters and we will work with that to collect the information that we need going forward in the PSL season."

Tefu Mashamaite said;

"The supporters are sacrificing their hard earned money to vote and buy tickets to come to the stadium. It is a sold out game. Personally I have had a good rapport with the supporters and I wish the support can reach out to each and every athlete. We are ready to do battle in the field of play and we wish that the supporters will enjoy watching the game."

George Maluleka said:

“I wouldn’t say it is a challenge to get psyched up, because we are automatically prepared for such a contest. You don’t need to be reminded about what this fixture means. We all know that it is a Soweto Derby, there is a lot at stake, and there are bragging rights to play for in this one,” he says, adding that it would still be sweet to win it.

Pa Gaxa said;

“Every player is looking forward to this game and the start of the new season. This is the most important thing to be voted into the team by fans as it shows how much they value your contribution in the team. I am really grateful to the fans for voting for me. This match is more for the fans and it shows how the fans see us as players. I don’t think there is that pressure of winning the match because the most important thing is to enjoy the match.”

The former Kaizer Chiefs player, Bradley Carnell said;

"It's a hype of the biggest soccer showpiece in and around South Africa. The players must just remember to focus. This is a preseason game and gives both teams a measure of how they are in their preparations for the upcoming season. It is always nice to know how you are doing this time of the season."

Carnell played for Chiefs during the 97-98 season. The left back went on to star for VfB Stuttgart in Germany.

Kickoff is at 15:30. Gates open at 12:00.
